Random orbital sander
My sander has stopped rotating under power, it just spins freely, but still oscillitates. I have taken the sander head off but can't find out how it should work. Can any of your experts advise please?

Did it fail in use or whilst stored?

Not sure, I had been using it a while when I noticed it was not rotating. It was the first time I had used it for some time.

Re: Random orbital sander
So the eccentric hub still turns but the backing pad just freewheels? I believe that's how they are supposed to work. The backing pad only turns under power when the locking pin (if fitted) is slid into position...

Re: Random orbital sander
I'm sure mine only works when you apply pressure to the pad i.e. when it comes into contact with whatever you're sanding
