RIP John Surtees

As it says on the tin, General and off Topic area, talk about anything in here (within reason!)

I met John Surtees around 1970 when he ran his Formula 1 from Edenbridge. He was a real gentleman and had time for everyone. Very sad to learn of his passing.

My boyhood hero, when he was still racing (and winning) on Manx Nortons.

The only man ever to hold world championships on both two and four wheels. and not likely to be repeated.

Apparently he was one of many who practiced on an old airfield in Haddenham .. not far from some of us!! But the RAF top brass got fed up with the noise and told them to use another airfield where it wasn't so annoying for the locals.

That new airfield was (and is) Silverstone apparently!
