Massive cyber-attack on Europe and UK ..
... so make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date ... sounds like it was caused by an email with what was supposed to be a word doc .. and has impacted the NHS in England and some large corporate companies in Spain, including the owners of O2, telefonica. What is worrying is that that this particular malware has been around for a while ... pointing to someone or something not up-to-date!
If you get an email with an attachment called Receipt.doc, delete the email!
We should be safe: we only have a minimal email service on the owners' club website and we have recently beefed up our anti-virus and anti-spam protection provided by our ISP ..

You have assume that these people don't care that by taking down things like the NHS system people could die. Hope they get caught and are punished appropriately. Suggestions on a postcard....

NHS holds our most personal and sensitive health data but has less protection from cyber attack than A35 Owners Club. Pumping £8,000,000,000 into NHS IT will make everything ok though...gazza82 wrote:What is worrying is that that this particular malware has been around for a while ... pointing to someone or something not up-to-date!

We all know that the internet is rife with malware just waiting to attack, which is why we protect our PCs with Norton, McAfee etc. Seems the NHS just wasn't prepared for the obvious...

A lot of the NHS is still using Windows XP due to the software applications they need being old and not yet available on Win7, 8 or 10. But the worm exploited holes in the Windows OS in 7 as well ...
Micro$oft are only now patching the older os's even though the NHS paid an extra support fee to keep using it for longer than M$oft wanted. That patch is supposed to be released today so if your pc wants to update itself, let it.

Genuinely surprised that car production at Nissan Sunderland had been affected by this cyber attack. Nissan is a well organised operation which knows what its doing. Wonder if their link with Renault IT systems is pertinent

But showing your age Alan. Nissan dropped its Datsun brand name back in 1986...Alan wrote:Datsun isn't a bad car maker. its Japanese so will live longtime.

Just discovered Shekhar Mehta died back in 2006...
Can't find a video from his 240z rallying days, so here's one from 2016 Peking to Paris rally instead...

Isn't that like saying if you get burgled it's not the criminal's fault? I agree that we all need to take sensible precautions and clearly some NHS Trusts need to be asking some tough questions to their IT managers.

Ultimately it is the cyber attacker's faultSteveClem wrote:Isn't that like saying if you get burgled it's not the criminal's fault?
NHS IT managers are employed and paid to provide appropriate defence to external attack. So they are delinquent and share culpability. I'm not sure who's worse - cyber criminals or NHS delinquents...SteveClem wrote:I agree that we all need to take sensible precautions and clearly some NHS Trusts need to be asking some tough questions to their IT managers.
