Future For Cars In London ?
May be of interest for those who live or drive in London. Policy will undoubtedly extend to other cities...

Re: Future For Cars In London ?
I only drive in cities as a last resort these days, I find it extremely unpleasant!
On the positive side, there's still lots of nice country roads.

I live just outside the M25 and it would be a cold day in Hell when I drive inside the M25

Maybe banning cars from cities (and high density urban environments) is the right move...Dave Clark wrote:I live just outside the M25 and it would be a cold day in Hell when I drive inside the M25

Even London traffic at 7.8 mph average is faster than walking...
Re: Future For Cars In London ?
But far more polluting...unless its the morning after a bad curry,I suppose
Re: Future For Cars In London ?
Comparison of CO2 emissions between walking, cycling and driving (especially small car with 2 or more occupants) can be illuminating...SteveClem wrote:But far more polluting...
But there's definitely a problem with NOx, CO, HC and particulates from many sources of combustion and elsewhere. Research suggests that particulate emissions from electric cars can exceed diesels because their extra mass has an adverse effect on brake and tyre wear.
Gas cookers and wood burning stoves aren't very clever either...

Didn't I read that cow farts were pretty bad too? Sorry to go back to the flatulance theme...methane is a serious greenhouse gas they say. As is water vapour. Tricky when most of the planet is covered by oceans
Re: Future For Cars In London ?
Increase in cattle stocks caused by shift towards eating more meat, is a significant environmental problem. After eating all that grass, those damn cows can't stop emitting methane...SteveClem wrote:Didn't I read that cow farts were pretty bad too?
Re: Future For Cars In London ?
Cement production is a significant source of CO2 emissions (5% of total). More reason to increase tax on construction and infrastructure projects
Re: Future For Cars In London ?
Cement...now that's an interesting thing to talk about since the cricket is rained off and the dogs have gone to sleep....oh yes...I heard that Roman concrete gets harder over the years whilst modern concrete weakens. They're trying to recreate the formula

So use your electric cooker, powered by nuclear power or bio mass wood chip.....simple answer, don't cook! Eat everything raw! No need for Beef cattle, only dairy, which then reduces your methane from the cows....however, humans who switch to a vegan diet are statistically proven to F*** more, so we are back to square one? Simple answer is human birth control...especially in Africa, India and China....Big Daddy wrote:Comparison of CO2 emissions between walking, cycling and driving (especially small car with 2 or more occupants) can be illuminating...SteveClem wrote:But far more polluting...
