What I did today....
The Austin showroom display sign David bought at the National Rally would not fit in his car with family and camping gear etc, so I bought it home for him in the A35. It was too good an opportunity to miss, so I spent this afternoon fabricating a replica box.
Now I just need to make a replica sign.....

Re: What I did today....
The steel box is the easy part. The perspex sign itself might be the killer as I'm currently out of my depth. Am working on it though....
Interestingly we found the Austin sign hasn't always been in that box as there were holes drilled in the top corners, where it had previously been screwed to a wall, which has caused it to crack. Both items are period, but we suspect have been united by a dealer at some time.

I did like the look of that sign in the auction. Sadly it got waaaay too pricey for me, and I ended up buying a bootlid for £1 and a propshaft for the same price

Neil, genuine boxes are very rarely available for less than £450, I have seen them sell for closer to £800, the sign bought from the auction was a genuine steal, I was amazed the auction stopped so soon. Painted up, I would almost guarantee your repros' would sell all day long £250,

"How much?"A40FARINAGURU wrote:you sound like the Josh Fiddler (Peter Butterworth) in 'Carry on Camping' where everything was a pound!Richard-Essex wrote:I ended up buying a bootlid for £1 and a propshaft for the same price
"£1"
(gets money out)
"per tent"
"then there is the joining fee"
"How much"
"£1"
(gets money out)
"per person"
Or something along those lines!
