Wings and nose job.
Re: Wings and nose job.
Many thanks, at least in the meantime I worked out how to get the photos the right way round! I was using Word to crop and compress them and am now using Powerpoint which seems to have solved the problem and its really quick and easy.
Re: Wings and nose job.
Some great progress this week, my mate Derek with the welder had some time. So impressed with his ability to fashion metal and he made it all look effortless. Also now understand when people say panel parts don't fit exactly and they have to have minor adjustments and changes to make them fit. This is a skill in itself. Hats off to all out there that work with metal This is not to criticise the new repair panels obtained last year at National, think the general quality of these is superb and worth every penny.
All small repairs now finished and on with more painting of the hidden away bits with the black epoxy paint to protect from any future corrosion. Also dependent on Derek finding more time.

Getting plenty of the coverage on those parts Ed will help keep it good

Re: Wings and nose job.
Hi John, Welder is a MIG, not sure of make but its quite old and substantial! Further update, couple of sessions over the last ten days saw me help Derek get new rubber seals on inner wing fitted, then wings loosely fitted and he then finished spraying the wings and door pillars, ends of front panels etc. Last session was then to finish off by inserting wing piping, tightening up with new bolts and refitting all lights etc. Wing piping was time consuming rather than difficult, we warmed it up first, used some flexible sealer around it to ensure its 100% waterproof and then tightened from the bottom of the windscreen forward. Finally a major polish all round and she is shining like never before, it's a great colour match and I know it is all sound and well protected underneath.
Final jobs will be some undercoat on all the new paint underneath and protecting the open area commonly known as a brilliant mud trap between the bottom of the wing and the nose of the sill! Also thinking about replacement wheelarch shields as well if I can find the right material. Previous ones worked so well at protecting back of the headlamp area

Re: Wings and nose job.
One other comment, new shine on bodywork has made wheels look very shabby so think they will be next on list, time to sandblast them back to bare metal and respray. I hammerited them a long time ago and then the guy who last sprayed it simply blew some paint over the top of the hammerite, has done the job for 15 years and virtually no rust, but time to do it properly this time methinks.
Re: Wings and nose job.
Managed to get one of the mud traps covered over, used some cardboard to make a template and then cut it out of a piece of thin alloy sheet. Bent and put in placed and then sealed round with Sikaflex - 221. Only just started using this and it seems to bond brilliantly and is supposed to stay flexible. All looks pretty secure and will underseal it once the Sikaflex is dry and do the other side.
Whilst underneath I also took a shot of the mechanical brake light switch I've just fitted. Its one designed for use on cars and comes with waterproof cap. I made an adjustable plate to mount it on and used the existing brake pedal spring mountings. It's early days but so far it's working beautifully coming on as soon as the pedal starts moving and not as before when pressure starts building up which sometimes meant I was braking long before the hydraulic switch actuated and I've been through several switches to try and get one that worked better.

Looking really good Ed, often wondered about making up fibreglass buckets to go in the wheel arches to protect from stones and mud. Your mud guard looks very neat and effective.

Re: Wings and nose job.
That's interesting, they're slightly different from mine so there must have been at least two different makes! Amazing that there aren't more around. Really like having a passenger one now as well
