The glass goes in from below.
The L shaped channel from above but you need to bend the bottom end straight and reshape it once it's installed.
Put masking tape on any paintwork you want to avoid scratching in the process.
On 4 door cars it's easier than two door cars...

I would have said 7 would be liberally sprinkled between the other steps ... and often duplicated ....

Re: door glass and frame rebuild sequence
Rebuilding my doors and did it by lots of dry runs until I got the sequence sorted. (wish I had looked here first but I came to the same sequence as Neil suggests.
Here it is in a bit more detail.
1) Mask round outside edges around window opening to stop scratching paint
2) Fit door latch and operating bar complete (don't tighten screws fully yet)
3) Fit quarter light assembly
4) Fit front vertical window channel from inside and push into quarter assembly don't fix the lower screw yet
5) Juggle window glass from inside pushing upwards and into the front channel.
6) Loosely fix in the front channel bottom screw
7) Lower the glass as far as possible onto the bump stop keeping the glass in the front channel.
Fit L shaped channel from outside top ( minding not to scratch door paint) ensure it slides down the glass then and loosely fix selftap screws into door.
9) Loosely fix the L shaped channel bottom screw
10) Fit glass bottom channel (if separated from glass)
11) Install window lifter mechanism (don't tighten bolts fully yet)
12) Gradually tighten all screws and bolts ensuring locks and glass move freely.
13) Remove outside masking tape before is sticks permanently.

13. Try Frogtape ... not as tacky as normal masking tape and comes off easier. Just as strong ... just more expensive as you would expect.

Re: door glass and frame rebuild sequence
I realise this is some break between posts on this thread.
I'm revisiting the rebuild of the doors on YDV 624, following the replacement (with spot-on club items) of the replacement (BM variety) of the original (Johnny Longbridge) front quarterlight rubbers.
The front channel has a tab return at the top. Does this sit within the rear L channel, or between it and the door frame? Logic (my logic, anyway... and that's led me up several blind alleys and creaks) is that it sits inside.
Second question. I've read that some folk use Tiger seal, rather than screws, to complete the location of the quarterlight assembly. Any thoughts?
Happy Sunday (though no sun where I am)!

Re: door glass and frame rebuild sequence
I've seen both on original vehicles... Earlier cars had in inside with the front screw through the hole... Later cars... and the vast majority... have it trapped outside the channel...Mark Higgitt wrote: The front channel has a tab return at the top. Tiger Seal is excellent, but you have to be sure you have it in the correct position as it's very unforgiving...
