Front hub torque settings

Post by Mark Higgitt »

Midget front discs go on Austin the Austin tomorrow.
I can't track down the correct torque settings for the caliper bolts or the stub axle nut.
Any guidance would be most welcome, thanks.

I'm not sure there is a specific torque setting. Dave Clark mentioned this not so long along I think.

check with one of the 'experts on here' first. you may do more damage than good I suspect.

Tight...

There's plenty of suggested bolt size/torque charts on google if you need a rough guide...

Go as tight as you like on the front hubs providing you don't strip the stub axle threads.

But be more careful when tightening the caliper bolts. Will see if I can find the torque spec unless somebody beats me to it...

I was always told to stop half a turn before the bolt breaks ;-)

Approaching torque to yield which is common practice today. Maintains clamp load in service. Relates to stress/strain characteristics...

I always use Loctite on fixings like these. (Not on the spindle nut though, which has the split pin)

The Midget settings are: Castellated hub nut 46 pounds/foot
caliper to stub , 48 p/foot
disk to hub, 43 p/foot

just done this conversion and car certainly stops well.
