Floor repair question
Floor repair question
Hi,
I'm restoring a '56 Countryman. The previous owner had started repairs by cutting out part of the floor on the driver's side. Please see photos. He left a small ledge/lip around the outside edges. I'm assuming that this was so the new floor panel could sit on that ledge before welding. Is that OK? Thanks.
(And all the little white dots elsewhere on the floor are rust holes that need to be dealt with!)

Re: Floor repair question
I would invest in floor repair panels as they have a lip that can be used to butt weld it to the other panels (this closely resembles the original spotweld method).
I try to avoid making joints were the panels overlap as moisture can accumulate between the seam.
You can order panels from clayton austin panels or you might be able to pick them up on the national rally

He's in Canberra, Australia so it might be a long way to come to the Rally .. and his excess baggage charges will be eye-watering!

Haha did not realize that! Moisture might not be such an issue as it is in our part of the world as wellgazza82 wrote:He's in Canberra, Australia so it might be a long way to come to the Rally .. and his excess baggage charges will be eye-watering!

They have rain forests in Queensland ... should have been a small clue to the weather Philip! Although wasn't that the cyclone time?

Re: Floor repair question
Thanks for the replies. Haven't had a Fosters in years: probably had few when I lived in Darwin, back in the '70s. There, nearly all the beers came in cans. Luckily the major brands had different coloured cans, so all you had to remember was the colour of your favourite beer, rather than the name! There was a small brewery in Darwin, but it wasn't big enough to keep up with demand. It was most famous for the Darwin Stubby: see link to Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Darwin_stubby.jpg
It was really just a tourist gimmick.
Like everywhere else these days, Canberra has a few good micro breweries. I'm currently drinking a bottle of Pact Beer Company IPA. Great stuff.

Some great local IPA's here too. We don't have to chill them for about 10 months of the year.
