yes the Dolomite had commonly known as 'half a Stag' engineNeil Evans wrote:There's worse oddities out there... No. 1 on a Triumph Stag V8 is neither the front cylinder, not the rear cylinder, but the front cylinder of the right hand bank, looking from the front, presumably the reason being that this was No. 1 cylinder on the 4 pot Dolomite engine from which the Stag unit was developed...gazza82 wrote:
1 at water pump end. I see lots of posts on mini forums thinking it is left to right and it's the same engine

I quite fancy a Dolomite. Always thought they looked a bit classy, and I need all the help I can get.

Rarity value of finding a Stag still fitted with a Triumph V8 engine ...Neil Evans wrote:Stags are that awful that folk will pay 25k for a good one today...
Re: 1959 Austin a35 restoration
Less of the triumph rubbish, you know the best selling car they made was the triumph acclaim and that wasn't even there design it was Hondas, anyway rebuilt the carb and fuel pump they were both really gummed up
I soaked the carb in thinners and then used my home made soda blaster and they both come up great, I only had a tinny bit of petrol so filled the float bowl up to see if it would fire up and at first it just popped and banged checked the firing order and I done it clockwise so changed that and now it's alive well for a short while anyway, I'll get some fuel and get it running again tomorrow,

Re: 1959 Austin a35 restoration
I ran out of time today to investigate the missfire but I've not changed the points leads or plugs, I managed to bust the coil to by over tighning one of the bolts so could be that to, I checked the vacuum which was very low so vacuum leak or I've not don't the valve clearance properly, I'll have to investigate lucky it's an extremely simple engine, the dynamo is only changing at 10.3 volts so need to take a look at that and the regulator,
I tried to polarise the dynamo but there was no spark ? Known power source to the f terminal right should get a little spark right ? no knocking or smoke from the engine so I think it will be fine,
Yes I do follow Pete c, I like his attention to detail, I met him at the nec he's a nice chap,

Well I'm at work and was driving to London and it clicked I've messed up the firing order I did it in a hurry as I wanted to hear it run, it's always the simple things you mess up, I'm surprised it ran at all the way I did it lol
ill put it right tomorrow and I'm quite sure it will run lovely
