Nearly all the A35,s I have owned or noticed on the road not only have a slightly different ride height side to side but also have the rear axle displaced slightly to one side.

It is worth slackening all the U bolts and setting the axle midway before fitting a Panhard rod, which should keep it centred.

Having said that I never felt the my present car handled any worse because the axle was offset,- maybe because it handles a bit like a drunken pig on roller skates anyway, a clear case of the chassis being unable to handle the horsepower and torque being applied.

My uneducated guess is that there is a fault with the OSR Spring or perhaps the NSR is just newer and less tired

I will compare them once I have removed both of them

I know b*gger all about the alchemy that you guys use to turn these old girls into race cars, but I'm full of admiration. I think they're quite scary at 50mph.

There's nothing special Steve, just an aptitude for holding on tight...

I think that jumping back into an 803 running standard ride height , brakes and crossply's would be a rude awakening

My 803 is standard apart from radial tyres. That must be why I find 50 mph exhilarating!

A couple of years ago I got to drive a standard A35 van and was absolutely appalled, particularly with the brakes, which had just had £700 worth of "professional" attention.

UBH 325 Continuous Inprovements

Post by Countryboy »

I have managed to partially fit the new N/S Spring . It had to go in front end first . I have fitted the rear shackle pin into it and am struggling to get the front bolt hole to line up. I need to continue working when I am not disturbing others nearby . Gentle persuasion while not damaging paintwork is required here !

The first rear damper that I removed seems to be working really well if a little leaky

How did you find the 'Academy' rear springs? I've seen reports and photographs that suggest they are too long...
