Thanks

In standard form it is very efficient and good for 100bhp more than the car rolled of the production line with

I will live with that

Racy looking cylinder head Steven...

Technical question for you. On the BMW bike installation, the engine is horizontally orientated. This means oil collects on the lower side of the head (ie exhaust side) before flowing back to crankcase. In the A30 installation the head is rotated by 90 degs.

What oil system changes are made to ensure control of oil return to the sump in the car installation :?: Are any other changes necessary, such as control of coolant flow :?:

Complete BMW engine looks impressive and not too expensive. Could be an interesting option for a small capacity (1171cc) lightweight car...

I am looking into dry decking the new head but it is a challenge to get a pipe in without cutting the car around :study:

Thanks , it's just a collection of parts to accompany my overdraught currently. Chassis mods are more pressing and the current focus

It's given me ideas... though I do wonder, how is it for torque compared to the A series conversion?

Complete BMW engine looks impressive: 130 hp (97 kW) @ 8,750 rpm and 117 Nm (86 lbf.ft) @ 6,750 rpm from just 1171cc.

But you've hit the nail on the head Neil. Torque output (unlike power) is dominated by engine displacement. With naturally aspirated 1200cc (or even 1300cc), max torque of any engine will never be amazing.

Even so, torque of standard BMW 1200 engine exceeds best production A-series 1300 - Cooper S 1.3i had 110 Nm. Suspect even an A-series with properly flowed head would still not match standard BMW, despite being over 100cc bigger.

Can be improved by increasing displacement or inlet charging.

The BMW engine is a revver but still within sensible bounds, unlike many bike engines. If capacity was constrained for some reason (eg class rules), K1200RS would be high on my potential engine list...

David was telling somebody who tried and failed

If my poor short term memory serves me well, it was difficult to mount :study:

Been doing some chassis mods. I have bought Academy rear springs and dampers.

I gave everything a rub down and degrease before priming and black gloss

Also on their way are some new U bolts from Bull Motif. I was surprised when they gave me a club discount

Hope this little lot will improve the handling a little
