GOT OIL LEAKS CHECK THIS ONE

Had some troublesome oil leaks on EMD from day 1 of getting back on the road but no time and patience to sort out but had some thoughts after keeping an eye on things
From what I could see the leak appeared to be coming from round the tappet side covers and I had tried tightening them up some weeks ago but didn't seem to make a lot of difference
Any way off came the manifold and removed the one with the breather pipe as that was the one which had oil around it
I thought new gasket and screw soft washer,............but thought just check the breather pipe make sure no problems,.............how could there be.
Oh yes it was rammed solid and I mean solid up at the bend and inside at the inner section as if some one had fill it up with cement. I poked it out with screwdrivers pieces of wire anything as you cant get in there. Put in boiling water to loosen the inside and eventually got it clear the red hot water gushing through
This tappet cover must have been from the original engine which that engine looked like it had never seen an oil change in its life and although all engine parts had been cleaned the blockage remained and out of sight.
Will monitor for oil leaks now on and see BUT IF YOU HAVE OIL PROBLEMS CHECK THIS ONE!

Also cleaned out sediment trap it does its job well see photo

Wow John, with that blockage you must have had excess crankcase pressure and it should have been blowing out everywhere! hope you see a significant improvement! All Best Ed

Thanks chaps

Took it for a shortish run but still slight leak at pulley area but still not convinced its the pulley seal as yet although it is the "felt seal". Need to run more though but 181 is back on the scene and needs its turn!
As for brass Steve couldnt find any in that muck!
Reminds me of a past very funny comedian who used to say "look at the muck in here"

Went for a run in EMD this week and had loaded up the boot with several items of some weight and the car seem to run such a lot smoother, less vibrations etc. Any comments anyone?

Thanks

Out in EMD today and got frustrated with the front shockers they are useless. So whipped off front N/S suspension etc and will adjust up the Kingpin whilst at it as too much lift. Cleaned up parts and will sort out replacement shockers
