Welcome back to the fold Matt, It would be good to get our Heaps together again at Bath providing Neil manages to get the body panels done.

Glad you are back Matt and I know we had a chat at Wortley
When you get that crank just check the shells are the size for the crank and dont make me mistake

You got the bad engineering I had something similar with that Mini specialist in Sheffield with the bodyywork it is a problem out there for us all

Good luck

I have had the price back from Derby plating to have all the chrome work done, there are some items I could buy elsewhere cheaper but I'm only doing this once, has anybody had the new stainless bumpers? Do they really shine like the chrome ones? I thought the ones Robert prinn had at Sheffield looked a little dull but then I suppose they weren't polished.

Ive agreed to buy a good replacement boot lid and bonnet lid rather than attempt a repair to mine though I will keep mine in storage (you never know when we will run out of good ones)

The cranks from esm come machined and with shells to match I would hope they'd supply the correct ones :? The engine is already out and ready to go on the bench when I can get a hand lifting it up there  it's about twice my weight at least :rol: I'm going to disturb as little as possible but as I'm going to replace the con rods the heads got to come off. When I'm ready and start work on it I'll do some photos (I know how you all like photos  )

Good to see you back on here Matt.
I quite liked the stainless ones, but I don't think they can shine like a well chromed bumper.

I've started to look at the engine for my car, well I say look at it.. I've lifted it onto the bench and drained the oil  I need to clean and de grease it so I can re paint it once I've stripped it again, what de greaser do you all use? I've got some aviation de greaser that is fantastic but at £60 for 5 litres I'm not spraying it over the engine!

washing up liquid and a scrubbing brush. There is some salt in washing up liquid so beware of rust on bare metal.

Today I decided it was time to in cover my car, I have emptied all the carp that I had stored in it and I've brushed all the dust off it ready for its trip to be repaired at last. I have dug out the spare set of rims that I have and will be having them sand blasted and probably powder coated. Does anybody have a ral code for the correct colour for them?

My car has finally left its home for the past couple of years and has gone to a well known chap to have the bodywork sorted, it's strange opening the garage up and not seeing the car :? I can now spread the spares that I have accumulated out and sort out what is going on the car and what is not then I can finish off my list of need to buys. I have contacted a firm that re furbish the original cast iron water pumps and I'll ask my dad if he can get the engine block into the machine shop to be. Chemically stripped (he gets a discount  ) the head will go in too and have hardened valve seats fitted and be chemically stripped too ready for a fresh coat of paint.

Oh yes it's in very safe and capable hands  my next issues are working out in what order I buy all the other bits and have things like the wheels powder coated. I do want the wishbones and axle shot blasted and powder coated too but they are on the car. (That's just reminded me rear springs aren't on my list  )

Hey guys, I'm afraid no further updates. I've had a lot of bad luck of late. A few moths ago my Land Rover blew it's engine so I have been relying on public transport for about 3 months I have now replaced it with a very nice bmw 320 petrol. I am hoping for no hiccups between now and the rally in a few weeks time. I'm looking forward to catching up with a few friendly faces

Guys I'm back  the toils of the smallholding, extra workload, holidays and the lure of Facebook has prevented me from posting on here  since my car got to Neil's there has been some progress, I have been over a few times and with some guidance it is now a bare shell, the shell has been shot blasted and given a coat of primer, I was expecting the shell to look a lot worse than it is but now all the areas that need repairing can be seen
