Well it would be good to see such a nice vehicle but agreed, that is a long way, would be a more exciting journey in the van than in a 'normal car' though ;)

If it sways your decision I'll be going from Scarborough which is surprisingly (to me at least) a similar distance. But to make it more difficult for myself I'm going via Cambridgeshire

It's only once a year, why not come in the Austin

Look forward to seeing you there!

64 Van Restoration

Post by Hoppend »

I'm driving the Austin all the way from Holland! But surprisingly it's only a 730 km round trip. (454 mile) I am certain that we will add some extra km's when avoiding motorways and visiting interesting events/museums/sites allong the way or when we are in Bath.

Any suggestions?

Well, we are flexible but we are definately taking the Ferry from Hoek van Holland - Harwich. And I am looking for something to do at 2/3 of the way there...

Once you get to Bath, it is a very pretty city, the park and ride is directly opposite of the site and there will be several booklets giving you routes ad locations to do and visit. There will also be some organised road runs.

Surely if they are within the limits they don't need replacing...

Unlike a worn ball joint a worn king pin will not get noticeably worse in a short space of time. It can't break or escape like a ball joint so can't collapse and cause an accident. My sister bought an A35 in 1980 and when I gave it a once over the king pins showed a bit of wear, which I monitored regularly, thinking they would need replacing eventually. She used the car daily for 13 years and I never did get round to replacing them...
