What a great job you are doing, I hope the back is feeling better soon, so you can get back on it! Maybe a roll mat would help?

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
Thanks guys for the kind words, however "hero" is a bit strong. I am just following the wise advice I received at the start of the project to "eat the elephant one bite at a time".
It just turned out to be a chuffing big elephant!!

If you are on the concrete floor get something to lay on. I used cardboard tons of that whatever you buy and some old carpet and a big piece of sponge

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
I have now finished all four wheel arches and have cut out the driver's side rear floor.
The extension of the shackle pin bracket which extends under the floor had rotted out and came away with the floor so another fabrication is in order.]
However a glancing blow on the inner sill has peeled a section of skin back on my finger so I shall give it a day or so to allow it to re-attach. Not for the first time, I have shed blood for my Austin.Re: Yorkshire Van restoration

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
The extension bracket was made and fitted. I also replaced the missing flange onto which I shall weld the new floor panel.
Advice needed. What is the best way to weld the back edge in place?
Then I cut out the front floor, taking care to protect the master cylinder bracket. As I need to buy a number of panels before I can proceed with this, I shall have to put it on hold until funds permit, However, I have a sill for the other side on order from Paul Clayton so while I await it's arrival, I decided to clean, treat and prime the bulkhead. Quite a shock to the system as I think this is the first panel I have worked on which didn't need welding - such luxury! I discovered this data plate numbered 784. Can anyone say what it is? There is something very satisfying in being able to prime a panel. A small thing but gives a real feeling of progress. While I have been writing this, the new sill has arrived so that is my next job.Advice needed. What is the best way to weld the back edge in place?

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
Have never seen one of those before. Where exactly is it attached? Does it have the regular Fisher & Ludlow plate high up on the bulkhead?A35revisited wrote:I discovered this data plate numbered 784. Can anyone say what it is?
Remove the paint completely between the heater duct slot and the forward edge of the shelf, there's usually a number stamped there...

It is on the battery / heater box shelf on the front edge where the heater box sat. The Fisher & Ludlow plate was removed for refitting later.

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
I'm guessing the F & L number is similar but not the same as the 111131? I've yet to find one with the correct number on the plate...
My guess on the '784' is that it's a company asset number, perhaps... Do you know who the van's original owner was?

Re: Yorkshire Van restoration
I have no history of the van at all and DVLA do not have the probable registration number on their database. I dug the Fisher Ludlow plate out and the number on that is A1 10099, miles out from the stamped-on number.
