as3 no 496

Post by Erik »

For those of you that remember my topic of may -11 I can inform that the restoration has begun.
all of brake parts are stripped off the car, and all cylinders have been in the UK for resleeving with good help from Stan Chatterton.
The car is now resting on blocks and the right sill,( the remains..) is off. I had a tinsmith made a couple of sill profiles in mild steel of which I have to make the front and rear end myself. Whish me luck!
More will follow, if of any interest.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!

There has been some time since last updating. So many other events grabs my time, like Family, grandchildren, travelling and care of old folks, so the main hobby has to silently wait.
Since last I have been welding - a lot! Opening the off side sill revealed a bit ( ) of debris and somewhat called - RUST?

The near side was no better. The floor was some places like bisquits - of the same reason

. Off it should, and off it came

I had a tinsmith made some profiles of the sill

, and then it was only to start using the hammer.

This was early in 2015.
Later, during the summer, both outer and inner sills etc has been replaced, on both sides.

Especially the sill nose was a bit tricky to make, but it worked.

no Erik, it was a second hand one, i just had to repair the front lip of it by using a bit from my old one where it had been ground out of the 'donor' car

Just an update since last:

The basic body is now done, with all welding, new brakes all over, front and rear suspention finished, and a kind of blue/gray paint applied. Close to the original. Wings, doors etc are not finished, yet.
In Production at my "home factory" - brand new leather seats - hopefully finished within Spring.

Next to handle are engine and gear. As long as I understand the engine has run about 80.000 km., so the possibility to have to do more than only renew some gaskets is present. As long as the car has not been used as a banger, I wonder how long this small engine should last?
When draining the gear box, the oil seemd to be unused! I will open the box anyway.

As a question of trafic safety - I'd like to mount flasher lights in adition to the semaphore lights. Is there any way to combine these two options using the same original switch?
