RLR 298 - an Academy build
As I said on the Facbook page, it's a bit like bolting the garage door after the car has driven off... but I didn't find the online A30 communities until after I'd finished my build.
So, here is a retrospective of what I did over the last 9 months.

Obviously, the first thing to do was weigh her. Getting on and off the trailer was interesting, as she really did have no brakes...
Once the weigh-in was completed, it was time to assess and strip.

Time to get dismantling.
(That's not me, that's my brother in the background.)
One donor interior.
One pile of un-needed body panels and trim.
I can't quite believe how much sound deadening there was in the doors.
Even the interior was smothered in a thick layer of heavy goo.
With hindsight the wings weren't too bad, but because I knew I'd be replacing them with fibreglass versions I cut them off as the bolts wouldn't come undone... I may still have bits of them in a pile in the corner.

Wondering why you changed those nice looking original wings for plastic..is it something to do with the racing stuff?

Pulling the engine out was interesting as I'd never removed anything but a Mini engine before so an inline gearbox was a novelty. Getting the clutch linkage undone was the hardest bit.
My Sykes Pickavant engine cradle worked a treat and we lowered it onto a trolley and wheeled it out from under the car.

Although I've got an extensive collection of VL Churchill special tools, the tool for removing the front springs isn't part of it so I made somehting instead.

I don't mind admitting that it took quite a while to work out that the pedals were in two parts, with a Whitworth nut holding them together.

Stripped and ready to go off to ProStrip for dipping.
It took longer to remove the front windows and quarterlights from the doors than it did to get the engine and drivetrain out !

I must say in the pre-dipping photo it certainly looks quite clean, will be interesting to see how it returns.

I planned to start mine three years ago! Life gets in the way (mostly work!)

This build is very interesting to me as I won't be able to afford to do it myself.
