Hopefully he'll be back on soon to tell us more. It's nice to see the behind the scenes detail that goes on with these cars.

The car was dipped by ProStrip in Nottingham.
After talking to pretty much most of all the major dipping companies, they instilled the most confidence in their process and handling of the car & components, as well as having a covered trailer for delivering the bare shell and an accomodating pricing structure. They sprayed the shell with a rust inhibitor which did work rather well.
On the back of my shell, the SnapOn guy in the next unit had his Peugeot 106 rally car dipped (he'd rolled the current one into a ball in the Isle of Man) by them as well, and the results were equally as good.

Having had the previous shell I'm working on soda/shot blasted, I will always go back to ProStrip in the future. Blasting has severe limitations as it only work on line of sight, and just isn't as good overall.

In an ideal world, and what I will be doing for the more long-term road cars in the future, is dip, repair, re-dip, e-coat for longevity.

The academy rules are pretty restrictive (though as time goes by it's becoming obvious that some people ignored them or were 'creative') and are based on the premise that if it's not specifically allowed, you can't do it. Luckily, the rules specify that you can seam weld the shell. So I did.

We wheeled Gertie out again for the Silverstone Classic media day.
Freezing cold damp, the tyres never really got any heat in them so times were slightly down in the red-flag interrrupted sessions... and then it all went Pete Tong...

Great video, thanks for sharing.

I was worried about what was going to go wrong...and relieved to find out that it wasn't major!
