Alloy wheel question
I think I know the answer to this but I have seen some wheels I like which as 5.5 inch with a 130 pcd. i guess these will be too wide for our car without modifying the arches

Re: Alloy wheel question
It tends to depend on whether they have a lot of inset or offset. Inset tends to cause problems with the suspension and steering whereas offset fouls the bodywork (easier to alter than the suspension though!).
The PCD on A30/35 wheels is 4" which is close to 100mm (but not close enough as I know!) so 130mm would mean re-drilling between the existing holes if the wheel would accommodate it.
5.5 isn't massively wide so might work out if you don't go mad with the tyres. The PCD is probably the bigger issue.

Re: Alloy wheel question
4" PCD = 101.6mm
5.5" will probably, sorry, definitely rub the arches

I've just fitted 5.5".... they do indeed hit the arches

Re: Alloy wheel question
Dave Clark has A35 centres with 5.5" Fiesta rims and 165 width tyres on TMT and had to stretch the arches. Moving the rim offset inwards to avoid the arch is then likely to rub on the springs ...
165 in my opinion is the narrowest you should fit to 5.5" rims otherwise you stretch the tyres and look like a Nova driver ...
I've got a set of 6" minilites with 165 tyres and plan to swap them to 185 before I fit them to 757. And face the consequences ...

Re: Alloy wheel question
Correction.
The wheels on TMT and those made on the same jig on at least two other cars are 5" rims, not 5.5"
With the offset we decided upon, there was minimal clearance between rear springs and tyre, and Countryboy had contact between tyre and inner wheel arch on cornering.Spacers sorted these issues and, more recently, I have stretched the rear arches, more for peace of mind than anything else, as the clearance had become very small.
No problems at the front.

Could always resort to the grotesque option...

One could almost imagine that one had been insulted or upset ?

Not at all, one is most amused...
