Vortex Exhausts

Post by Countryboy »

http://www.vortexexhausttechnology.com/

Has anyone had any experience of these ? Apparently they work like a Dyson and suck the gasses out .

Claims on the website are far reaching and I am quite interested........ :study:

To quote: "Compared to any other performance exhaust systems a Vortex® raceflo exhaust delivers more power and more torque! Boost your cars BHP by at least 10% and torque by 15%!" ...

Yes , but you haven't answered my question. Some people dismissed the internal combustion engine and wanted to keep their horses !

They probably cpme under the same category as those electric turbo fans ...

If it sounds too good to be true ... It probably is ...

Steven - I have no experience of Vortex exhausts so cannot answer your question. They might be the answer to significantly more power, torque and fuel economy with much reduced emissions and carbon footprint. They might even save the planet and prevent WW3 but...

I think to get the most out of it you need the stage 2 package with the power resistor of justice

I believe Dr Who is behind this and he has the worlds supply of the special crystals that you have to add to the fuel - and this then also allows time travel.

I'll try to be constructive and put some facts on the table...

Vortex Exhaust's "Technology" (ref link above) is external tuning which is well known approach. It means optimising inlet, exhaust and engine management systems towards specific goals (eg AFR set to max power or best fuel economy). We've taken this approach on Evo2 although changes go further than Vortex.

Torque increase was 12% with initial power increase of 18%. A few tweaks have since improved power by another 2%. This 20% increase is typical for a modern 4-valve engine when changes include removing the catalyst (externally tuned 150hp 2.0L Duratec will achieve about 180hp).

Unfortunately there are drawbacks. Fuel economy gets worse (BSFC), plus exhaust emissions and drive-by noise fail requirements for modern cars. Fuel economy can be addressed by returning to stoich (with catalyst) or leaner, but then power is lost.

Turbocharged engines offer more scope by increasing boost pressure. Power level can be doubled fairly easily but without extensive mods, a regular turbo engine will soon go bang.

Didn't Chubby Brewer and Tall Ed fit one to a Cobra that time?
