So there is the answer Dave, Big Daddy, Gazza. If there are plenty of cheap, solid and reliable a30/a35s and the insurance is cheap enough, we'll get more young members.

Completely the wrong thread for this but maybe the club could buy a few cars as and when they come up cheap and use the skilled older members to do them up?

If I was retired and skilled enough, I wouldn't mind spending someone else's money to pay for my hobby.

I haven't found the time to start MY car yet .. been a member since 2014!

Having said that IF I had the skills of some of our members I'd love to rebuild classics as a job .. but fear I'm getting past the point where that is an option .. :-(

Attempting to pulll my posting from the hijacked one, (A30 Track Car Update posting)and replying Dave Clarks request for more details.

Greetings from Ireland, I won't make it to the Nationals or anything, but would be keen to be in the loop on any sub-forum etc for modified cars.

I have 937 UMG here, Vauxhall 1400 cc engined A35, heres a previous thread from this parish about it
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=3906

Always been keen on modified cars, especialy ones that can "surprise" from lights, this one fits the bill nicely.
Theres a Toyota Twin Cam van being built on another forum I frequent, am keen on links to build threads, or videos, to see what upgrades people have done, what works, what doesn't etc.
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Pat

***EDIT*** Not sure why pics are not posting, will be back soon to try and fix this*****
I spotted 937 UMG on ebay a few years back, but didn't have the funds at the time, roll forward about a year and it appeared on the rodsnsods website and I managed to to a deal on it.

No less than three A30/A35s have entered Castle Combe track day on June 27th  There's representation from our Owners Club too (but not in an A35). Momentum is growing...

Go in TMT and overtake those A35s (I assume Academy cars getting extra practice)

Good luck/Have fun either way.

I was marshalling at the Castle Combe Classic Retro and Kit Car day and sadly there were no A30s or A35s there. In fact there were virtually no classics on the track at all (one MGB V8 and that was about it). There was a standard A35 running around the track with a standard Morris Minor on the Friday (not sure what event was going on) but nothing on Saturday.

Apart from HRDC and StMarys trophy, what other race series are Austin A 30/35 succesful in ?

Cursory search of internet dosent show much, maybe i am not searching in right place.

HRDC is a great thing, but personally I find mixed make racing more interesting.

"Pre 66" regs dont seem to help, may be another class would help?

Back in 2012, Tom and I raced Evo2 in MSVR Trackday and Team Trophy races of 45 to 60 minutes duration. Grids comprised of modern cars except for the A35.

Typically Evo2 achieved mid-field results which isn't bad for a Class C car...

Which is quite an acievement BD.point i was exploring was, there are some highley modified cars out there, but aprt from previoudley mentioned races, they dont seem to figure.
Could pushing for an adjustment in classes or new class help ? - higher profile in motor sport, eould bring in more people especially of the younger variety :D

Academy has already brought A30/A35s into the public eye especially at Goodwood this year. Getting anywhere close to that profile is a very tall order...

Most modified cars would not set competitive lap times and don't conform to any series regulations. Even Evo2 suffers from these issues. Although eligible for CSCC Open Series, Evo2 at 150hp is simply under-powered in a sea of Caterhams. Continuing with MSVR Trackday Trophy didn't make sense because their rules favour high power/drag ratios typical of modern powerful, low drag, heavy cars. Unless very powerful, A35s struggle with excessive aero drag over 100 mph.

But low profile, cheap, amateur focused sprinting could make sense, but only if there is genuine interest which sadly is usually absent. Small team of A30/A35s representing our club at Javelin Sprints could be fun...

Anyone interested :?: ...

:iagree: Its just that it seems that lots of work has been put into create modded A30/35 s but there is no obvious class to race them in where they can competitve.
Minis are competive in their class but not against Escorts....Similar is true of Austin A35 compared to minis
Back story to this is that i am looking ar racing my A35, but cost of all the right parts and mods , compared to potential results is a struggle to get your head around .......maybe i am just overthinking it :|
