Re: traction
Another very old trick to help stop springs winding up and causing tramp, is to clamp the front leafs, I made clamps from 1" x 0.5" thick steel, 4 pieces, with holes drilled so bolts would just clear either side of the spring, I used 1/2" HT bolts clamped on the front side of the spring, on the end 3rd leaf from the saddle, sounds Heath Robinson, but it really does work, has the dual effect of stiffening the spring, and stopping windup, the effect they can have can be altered by moving the clamp along the spring, another thing it can stop is if the car has a tendency to hang the tail out under acceleration to one side, the clamps can be moved slightly to different positions to each other to counteract this.....

Leaf springs and drag racers ...Dave Clark wrote:Drag racers use a link to increase traction, Fixed to the U bolts and a link pointing downwards from the spring eye.The idea is to prevent the diff nose rising as power comes on.Leaf springs distort to allow this.
Recommend 4 longitudinal links, Watts Linkage (Panhard Rod imposes roll centre asymmetry), coil-overs, LSD and lowered mass centre. Traction is outstanding and tramp eliminated Even with limited wheel torque, 0-60mph in under 6 secs is easy. Could get into 3 sec bracket with more torque and 'sticky' tyres, just like RR...Dave Clark wrote:Best idea is to 5 link the axle - or, very simply, just add a traction bar(anti tramp bar) on the drivers side.
Avoid Leaf Springs on a drag car...... although not a drag car, My old cortina was on leafs, it would get off the line very well. running 0.5sec 60ft times, which equates to a genuine 0.60mph of around 3 secs, the car did run 11.9 secs @110mph on street tires
Perhaps not a X Flow, but a 4.0 Rover, built around a Wilkenshaw GRp a European touring car engine, 320 hp on a stock lift grp a cam
leaf springs over a 4 bar traction, 400hp mk1 Gartrac built cosworth powered Mk1

Re: traction
Remember a very scary ride in a genuine Mk2 Savage when in my early 20's.....the guy was fearless and reckless...I still have the mental scars!!!....my own bog standard 1600E felt very slow afterwards...
A car I really wish I'd kept seeing how much they fetch now.....

Re: traction
The Savage was an unbalanced car, not only because it had V6 power, but because that V6 made them very nose heavy.
Re: traction
Drive a superspeed v6 mk2 with a getrag dogleg, more setback with the engine, a much better developed car than the uren savage

Re: traction
Did your car still use the Essex V6 or the Cologne version ?
Re: traction
If the question was about my mk2, it used neither Essex or cologne, 4 Ltr RoverDave Clark wrote:Did your car still use the Essex V6 or the Cologne version ?
All the v6 mk 2s built by any of the conversion makers were, be it Lumo, superspeed, Crayford or the uren cars were all essexs

Rover V8 is a good option but Ford 302 is better...ian24ian wrote:If the question was about my mk2, it used neither Essex or cologne, 4 Ltr Rover

Small Block Ford is a good engine - 351ci base can be taken to 460ci. That's 7.5 litres...A40FARINAGURU wrote:i think that was an upgrade for the Sunbeam Tiger (Boss 302?)
