Hello from Kent

Post by Clifford »

Hi. I'm a new member and new owner of a rather gorgeous 1958 van.

Image

It was restored about twelve years ago to what appears to be a pretty good standard, unfortunately it has sat virtually unused in a garage since then. I bought it two weeks ago and have been busy with re-commissioning work. Trying to persuade all the bits that once moved into moving again. Brakes all sorted and just about to remove the fuel tank for a good clean out and sealing. Desperately trying to get it back on the road in time for the forthcoming Bath rally.
Hope to meet up with some of you all there.

Clifford.

Hi Clifford,

Welcome aboard. That's a very smart van you have there. Hope you have lots of great times driving it around and meeting more Austineers along the way.

Cheers, David.

Welcome Clifford

Lovely looking van sir !

All the very best of luck in getting to Bath

I think you are very much improving your chances by cleaning the tank out. May I be so bold as to recommend at the very least you clean the fuel pipe through . Replacements aren't too expensive nor are fuel pump refurb kits

See you there

welcome, isn't that one of those 'pesto vans' with all the mods removed or a replica by looking at the colour

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Fuel tank now sealed and ready to go back in. Fuel line blown out, flushed with 'Marine Clean', rinsed, etc.
Just now going over ignition system and figuring out wiring for trailer socket, which will involve adding flasher relays, etc.

You might say it's THE ORIGINAL 'pesto van', before all the mods were added. It was bought by Nick Park, creator of 'Wallace & Gromit', in 2004. He then had it restored and it was the inspiration behind basing the anti-pesto van on an A35. He auctioned it for the Wallace & Gromit children's charity in 2006, the purchaser then hardly drove it, letting it sit in his garage for ten years. Hence all the wok now needed to get it back on the road. I'm getting there though.

As for the colour, any ideas what it might be? Doesn't seem to match any BMC or RAL codes I've found online and I need some touch-up paint.
