Hi all from Dorset

Post by Doobie »

Hi All
New member from Dorset here, I was looking for a pre-60 car and came across my "Baby" on Ebay. Bought it sight unseen (always a risk) and collected it from Lymington last Friday as it was on the Isle of Wight.

Took it in for an non-mot mot and it failed on a bit of welding but all in all not too bad. Once the welding and a few other bits and bobs are done it will be used as a weekend toy.
The car is quite late being registered on the 4th August 1959. I have been told it is a Southampton registration assuming it is the original one so it is less than 50 miles from its first registration point and the Chassis and engine numbers match which was a nice surprise.
I am going to need a few panels and other bits almost immediately so will no doubt be heading to Southampton with a long list and a roll of notes in the near future.......

Last 4 door was made on the 12th August 1959 so yours must be one of the youngest 4 doors cars around. WCG reg was first issued in June 1959 and CG is a Hampshire reg.

Yes, it does look honest & unmolested. That faded grey paint is always a good sign of originality, and the interior has nice patina.
Love the unusual placing of the number plate with a hole for the starting handle.

You've got better eyes than me, Chris! I can't make out the interior. Looks like a keeper though.

that is original, rather than replacing the interior you may find a good used driver seat base to repair that one to keep it's originality, the same with the door casing, it needs a warm day to make the plastic more pliable so as to gently pull it & glue it back down, i see someone couldn't afford a heater

Sorry I should have mentioned that I'd spied the interior photos on a well known auction site.

Not sure I'm keen on the battery clamping arrangement .. that chain looks a bit to close to the negative earth post for me! They normally fit widthways and have the clamp across the front top edge ..

Other than that I can see someone investing in a lot of wire brushes and the like ..

Where's the worse rust you mention ? (passenger sill looks a bit suspect!) ...

Yes sills....

Whatever the curved bit is inside the backdoor at the top of the sills

Front inner arches....

Image

both front floors, although i would probably get away with a patch in each corner I plan to replace the whole floor looking at how thin they are...

A couple of small patches underneath completes the list.... Just have to find a good place to do the work now....As while I normally do my own welding I have another project on the go and I am stupidly busy at work so will not have time to do the welding myself....
