Re: HRDC
It was a great day and well supported by club members. We had 13 cars in the line up initially and at least two more arrived later, so quite a turn out and from all over the country as well.
Glad it looks like the rolled car can be repaired as it was running second in the Academy Class when it came off so was clearly competitive.

Re: HRDC
Wonderful day out and, as said before great to see club and forum members making the effort to travel considerable distances to be there. Especially nice to see the average age of attendees !
I was surprised to see how competitive the Academy cars could be, given their limited specification.
What was clear was that they understeered very obviously round the Devils Elbow (if they were going fast enough) and that the inside rear wheel then spun very easily as they all have open diffs. Quite exciting when this happens on a standard A35 on, say, a wet roundabout at 10mph, but these cars were at 70mph + !!
The two cars that were racing at the head of the class before the roll were piloted by very good drivers and were ahead of some of the Speedwell cars which just illustrates that the most important nut on a car is the one behind the wheel.
Odd to see Smart cars being raced but not surprising that I saw two spins, one roll and a very serious coming together with a Honda. Madder than racing A35,s.

Re: HRDC
Some may be racing at Donnington on Oct 17th but don't think it's an Academy race ...just historics ...

Re: HRDC
I would like to do Donnington on the 17th. Robin Hood. I will have to check with work first though, not sure if they can cope with me going on much more about racing Austins!
By the way did anyone else notice the Gloster Meteor.and the De Haviland Vampire fly over Mallory, I cannot remember the last time I saw either of these types of aircraft in the air.

Re: HRDC
Austin Clayton have a Celette bracket jig and pulling arm available (my own jig is not up to the pulling).Countryboy wrote:Neil

There is some damage to the heel board and n/s inner sill. I've replaced these a hundred times before for rust repairs so no great problem once it's on the jig. The boot floor and n/s wheel arch have also moved, probably compounded by the removal of the spare wheel well and its blanking with a riveted aluminium plate. Nothing is a problem when you have the bottle to cut it out and start again...
Watch this space...roymck wrote:Neil , its rebuild would make a great thread , keep us informed.
