Re: Goodwood Revival
Can't see the car's number but I'm sure someone will know.
*** found it on facebook .. Car no 10 ***
It's along the back of the track from the stands and marquees in the distance.
Stop bending them!!! .. Want some left to see on 24th at Thruxton!!

Re: Goodwood Revival
I have just put a load of Goodwood A35 pics onto the facebook group Austin A30/35/40 restro projects/ spare parts - I tried to put them to the forum but I think you have to upload them somewhere first..anyway - this is the first group I found so I used that. they include car (2)46 roll in the Madgewick area
facebook : Austin A30/35/40 restro projects/ spare parts
I will have some better photos to upload soon - taken with a far better camera - will post them as I get them.

Re: Goodwood Revival
Placing them on a remote site first is relatively easy and saves a shed load of space on our servers (which we have to pay for).
And you don't have to adjust them for size either .. (the forum has a limit!)
Then all you need is a link in the post to the picture .. I tend to use Photobucket for a lot of images I want to post up ..

I use photobucket . You can install the photobucket app on your phone and upload pictures with a couple of clicks/taps.
Then a couple more to get the url for the image to make it appear on here.
The app could be better but its reasonably easy once you've done it a few times.

At least 3 were rolled over the w/e. The damage was such that I can’t envisage these shells ever being revived. They’ll just be donors and surely scrapped.
The number of failed engines was a big surprise. So much for cheap racing. At over £4K an engine, some teams got through 3 in 3 days. Is that driver error? I don’t suppose there’s any sort of warranty.
On a positive note it was great to see the professional drivers race so cleanly in the wet on Saturday. Even one who is habitually a DNF.
The write-offs were at the hands of the novices/entrants.

We were saying the same..there is a reason these cars weren't raced much. Too top heavy too narrow a track. On another note I can see looking at them they have protected well against the roll by having extra bracing around the rear roll cage mounting points for example. That said the engines are 3700 + vat I think so yes I would imagine there will be some hard words considering warranty etc. At the rate of engine and roll I can see the series being short lived and the cars becoming scarce quite quickly. Grab a bargain now. Can't see many racers wanting to remain in the series given the high cost..it's touted as cheap historic racing and whilst it is..you can have non historic fun cheaper. I prepped a mini for hillclimbing at loton park for a season and my biggest cost was entry and hotel fees..for a better handling car. I do love the colour schemes though..I expect needing to retain the interior upholstery is an attempt to leave some weight in the car to hold it down. The ones that rolled I saw all caught their rear wheel in the grass as they slid off track under side g. Then they got tank slappers on causing the roll. My guess is that none were rolled sat because of the wet weather rather than driver quality tbh. These are just my own musings by the way.
Lastly I would still like the series to do well in case anyone is in doubt.
Will try photo bucket when I get a chance ta.

Re: Goodwood Revival
The car pictured was next to me in the Competitors Campsite - I obviously had a look and a chat with the guys loading it onto the trailer.
The shell is indeed pretty knackered - boot floor folded hard enough that the fuel tank popped free and the floorpans warped in addition to the visible damage.
I'm sure it will be reshelled to race again though.
The driver was wandering about the paddock after qualifying looking grumpy but unhurt, and was discussing the availabilty of another car.

That said the slide back recovery vehicle is nothing new, the Americans having them in the 1930s, though the first were winched on and off with cables rather than hydraulically powered as today. The very latest ones have moved away from rams in favour of a rack and pinion system, though still hydraulically operated...
