Hi All
I'm looking for the 26 VME Carb spring that closes the choke. Does anyone have a spare they could let me have (name your "reasonable" price) or do you know of a source?
Also from a technical viewpoint would it matter if a not standard spring was used i.e. is its closing strength important or critical? It's probably easier to source a non-standard stronger spring than the original
The spring in question is shown in the pic below.
Thanks for any advice
Philip

A weak spring is essential here otherwise the choke flap would throttle the engine. The draw of the induction needs to be able to open the flap against the spring pressure...
That said, there are dozens of redundant 26VME's out there... in SU land...

Thanks Neil
It's for a spare carb - so not vital at the moment.
Regards Philip
Presumably this is when the choke flap is in the closed position - ie increased downdraft flips it open against the "weak" spring. When choke is Off I assume the spring has no function.Neil Evans wrote:A weak spring is essential here otherwise the choke flap would throttle the engine. You've got it. If the flap was mechanically held shut you'd risk flooding the engine every time you used the choke...

Have you tried Burlin Fuel Systems? They do re-furbished carbs and may have one, or a source.philipangus wrote:Hi All

Hi Bill
Thanks for the pointer - I think I have found the spring, but in another Carb they service, so I've ordered a couple at 14p each.
