Interesting morning

Post by Bill »

I know that the majority of our vehicles are MOT exempt these days. However as a responsible citizen, (I think,I wish not to be danger to myself and other road users so try to keep my car in good condition. So, at the local garage I booked an hour on the ramp with the mechanic, who is also the MOT examiner. I asked him to do an "MOT" but without the paperwork with me there inspecting the underside of the car. He said I would have got 4 advisories, flat spots on all the tyres where it has been parked over the winter. We had all the wheels off the ground and remedied a slightly binding brake, found that one of the rear exhaust pipe supports (cotton reels he called them) had failed (still adequately supported on the other so only another advisory) but other than that it would last another 20 years. It cost me more than an MOT would but I have seen the car up close and personal, which I would not have been allowed to do with a formal test. So, far from being a money saver, the lack of an MOT is an added expense but I am more than happy to be able to say that my car is as safe as possible and needs no immediate work doing. Anyone know a source of rear exhaust hangers and how do I get at them?

Have a word with the Club Spares Team as they are in the process of updating the website with parts, but otherwise I would expect someone like Earlpart or Bull Motif to stock them.

If I remember correctly don't they fit through the boot floor? So just a nut (and possibly a spring washer) on both ends ... been a while since I had my head under one!
