AV5 sill joint
AV5 sill joint
How are these two parts of the sill on an AV5 Connected? seems to be welded within the door opening, but what about the curved area?

Re: AV5 sill joint
The seam made by the flanges on the two panels was originally spot welded together before the whole side was fitted as an assembly. Impossible to do at home...

Re: AV5 sill joint
What I have done in the past is to weld the parts together from the outside, having made sure that the weld is deep enough to grind the slot with a Imm slitting disc in an angle grinder finishing with a little filler if necessary.
Re: AV5 sill joint
Yes, that will work, but then the originality, the seam, will disappear. I'd like it original, as Close to as possibly.

Re: AV5 sill joint
You've misunderstood Dave's answer. You need to weld it from the outside, of course, but it only needs to be about half a dozen small welds (take a look at a factory spot weld and see just how little is actually strong enough to hold the seam together these last 60 years, you don't need big caterpillar welds). Crank up the power so there's lots of penetration, then grind away the exposed welds where the seam is...Erik wrote:Yes, that will work, but then the originality, the seam, will disappear. Dave, I'm sorry - now I understand. Thanks to both
