EP90 Rear Axle Oil

Post by philipangus »

Hi all experts

What is the recommended EP oil for the rear axle these days. I haven't bought it for years and I'm not sure if I can mix my old EP 90 with the modern ones.

Is synthetic better than mineral and if I am mixing with the oil already in the axle does it matter which.

I'd rather just top up than drain completely as I'm finding it extremely difficult to get the drain plug to move.

Is it a GL5 specification I should go for?

Any wisdom on the matter greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Experts indeed...

Yes use GL5 - I recommend 75W-90 fully synthetic multigrade diff oil...

But drain the old oil first :!: Have you tried sliding a steel tube over the diff tool to increase leverage :?:
