Not good news then! I have an old style battery case with the back cut out and was going to fit a gel battery inside and connect to the terminals inside the box , therefore giving the appearance of a vintage battery without the risk of acid leak, I have had two do this recently, it's a no go then? :weed:

The Toyota Pious under bonnet battery can be replaced by a Optima battery that is 9" long, 5" deep and 9" high, might be worth considering if you have £130 spare.

Just investigated recommended battery for the Pious and Varta B33 appeared. Dimensions are 9.4" long, 5.1" deep and 8.9" high for £47. What advantage does the Optima battery have :?:

Even smaller! About the size of a large motorbike battery and no acid to leak.

Batteries are the same size just resolution of dimensions differ. Not convinced acid leakage is a real problem even when the car is hurled around on track. But we do get problems with gearbox oil escaping from odd places which never happens on the road :!:

Curing problems which don't exist maybe :?: ...

On good authority from CountryBoy, his Odyssey battery is type PC680:

Length 7.27in (184.7mm)
Width 3.11in (79.0mm)
Height 7.55in (191.8mm)

Investigated an equivalent lead-acid battery and discovered Exide YB16AL-A2:

Capacity 16Ah
CCA 175A
Length 8.07in (205mm)
Width 2.76in (70mm)
Height 6.38in (162mm)
Weight 11.7lb (5.3kg)

I'll come clean here  Investigated a dry cell battery for the Rocket which has high starting current (CCA), and we are looking again now.

Larger dry cells were very expensive and gave little weight saving for the same Ah and CCA ratings. So the Rocket inherited a large conventional lead-acid battery which could be downsized in hindsight.

I was hoping this thread would reveal an alternative dry cell battery worth pursuing. But as yet, I'm still living in hope...

In which case that might not be the one for Harry. 190mm is a tall battery. I think most7 are 175mm. But there must be similar capacity/CCA ratings in different sizes. And Odyssey are just one supplier. Demon Tweeks, Larkspeed, etc must be worth a look or other 'competition' parts suppliers.

Probably operate laying down too.

The lightest and best on test will be Lithium ion types, but rather expensive.
My Odyssey on the BMW was very easily capable of turning over a high compression twin cylinder engine of over 1100 cc capacity, repeatedly.

Isn't that simply CCA rating of the battery :?: Plus Ah capacity if you carry on cranking...

Confused here, as usual, has it not already been said that I can't use a gel" type battery with a dynamo? So game over? :?
